About Hammond Housing Authority

The Hammond Housing Authority (HHA) provides homes for low-income families and individuals. Those who meet income requirements are selected in accordance with the Hammond Housing Authority Occupancy Policy. There is no discrimination against people of any race, sex, color, or religion, and rent is partially subsidized by the federal government.

The HHA office and staff operates under the guidance of the Executive Director. Our properties are handicapped accessible, have hearing-impaired smoke detectors as well as many other accomodations. The office is open for business 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The HHA offers two types of housing - Public Housing and Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV). We operate 282 public housing units in the City of Hammond. Through the Section 8 HCV Program, residents receive rental assistance to help rent apartments owned by private landlords.

Mission Statement

The Mission of the Hammond Housing Authority is to operate for the purpose of providing decent, safe and sanitary dwellings within the financial reach of families of low and moderate income as to promote service, efficiency and economy and in such manner as to achieve the economic advancement and social well-being of the residents, ensuring that the facilities owned are a marketable asset to the community while identifying and addressing housing needs of the City of Hammond.
